Goodwill's newly-opened Sustainable Office a Great Resource for Growing Businesses
***UPDATE: Unfortunately, our Sustainable Office location is permanently closed. You can still find great furniture at our Seattle Dearborn location as well as our Seattle Outlet.
Seattle Goodwill takes tremendous pride in its sustainable practices. Last year alone we kept 53 million pounds of useable goods out of landfills. So if the opportunity arises to extend a useable good’s lifespan, and someone within our community can benefit from that item, it’s a win-win.
Every day thousands of donations are processed at our 40 donation sites scattered throughout the north and central Puget Sound before reaching Goodwill’s sales floors. Outside of individual donors, local businesses frequently make donations — oftentimes large quantities of furniture that is difficult to all display in one place.
So what can be done to keep useable office furniture out of landfills and into businesses looking to affordably outfit their work space?
Seattle Goodwill came up with a solution. We call it Sustainable Office.
“So many nonprofits or growing businesses don’t have financial resources and need stuff,” said Brent Frerichs, Seattle Goodwill Director of Business Development and Strategies. “This would be a great place to come.”
Seattle Goodwill in August opened the doors to its new Sustainable Office store located next to the Seattle Outlet at 1703 6th Ave. S. The opening followed a successful launch of a Sustainable Office pop-up shop at the Seattle Goodwill flagship store’s special sales area in 2016.
Sustainable Office sells a wide variety of office furniture such as chairs, desks, small filing cabinets, restaurant tables, white boards, cork boards, etc. at a great discounted price.
Seattle Goodwill picks-up donations from generous Seattle-area businesses on average two or three times a week before pricing and neatly displaying at Sustainable Office.
The store is open from 9 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday and can sell items individually or in bulk. Items purchased support Goodwill’s mission of providing free Job Training and Education Programs to those facing barriers to economic opportunity.
