Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15 to October 15
National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans celebrating the heritage rooted in all Latin American countries.
To help you celebrate and honor Hispanic Heritage Month, we’ve compiled some of our favorite resources for bringing Latinx voices to your life. You’ll find a diverse range of intersectional Hispanic and Latinx identities, experiences, cultures, and histories among these resources.
Celebrating Culture Through Cuisine
From the comfort of your own home, you can make a plan to order regularly from local Latinx-owned businesses. You can also learn about Hispanic culture through your taste buds by watching documentary series such as Netflix’s “Taco Chronicles” or “Pati’s Mexican Table" on PBS.
Actress Eva Longoria and Airbnb have teamed up to plan a variety of “culturally rich Online Experiences from across the United States and Latin America that honor Hispanic and Latinx traditions.” The month-long celebration will also culminate in an online cooking class taught by Longoria.
Advocacy
Looking for ways to get involved? Here’s a list of Latinx organizations rooted in activism, advocacy, and professional development:
- The Committee for Hispanic Families and Children (CHFC) - CHFC has developed and implemented programs that meet the needs of low-income Hispanic families and children in such critical areas as youth development, child care, HIV/AIDS prevention and education, immigrant services, public policy, and advocacy.
- Council for Latino Workplace Equity (CLWE) - The purpose of the CLWE is to foster workplace equity for Latino talent and seek inclusion and opportunity for Latino leaders to claim their place at the table with certainty and conviction.
- Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) - ALPFA's mission is to empower and develop Latino men and women as leaders of character for the nation, in every sector of the global economy.

Latinx Voices
Try ending your days this month by cozying up in bed with a good book by a Latinx author! Here are some of our favorites:
- Drown, the semi-autobiographical by Dominican American author Junot Díaz
- The House of the Spirits, the magical realism novel by Isabel Allende
- La Paloma y La Ley, a harrowing photojournalist account of two Cuban migrants making the dangerous voyage to the U.S. border
Plus, those with kids (or not!) will love re-reading classic books from their childhood, such as The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros.
Not sure where to start? Visit the below websites which include additional resources and an annual calendar of activities and events, from performances to exhibitions and presentations. While local festivities are typically held in person, this year they will mostly be found online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
