Looking to quickly expand your career? Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington has an exciting opportunity available to team members who love spending time on the open road.

Our Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A Program is a FREE, four-to-six-week training course, and we’ll even pay you your current wages or time spent in class! Once you’re finished – you’ll be ready to get behind the wheel as a driver for Evergreen Goodwill’s Transportation Department, and the organization will help you secure an open position.

The program is currently available in King and Snohomish Counties, with the goal of serving more employees in the future.

Who is eligible?

• The program is only open to team members who have been employed with Evergreen Goodwill for 90 days.
• Applicants must be 21 years old
• Candidates must have a good performance standing, an adequate driving record and be willing to participate in random drug screenings.
• Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. and pass a background check.

Why have a CDL Program?

For decades, our organization has offered classes, workshops and wraparound support services to anyone in the community through our free Job Training and Education programs – all in an effort to break down significant barriers to employment and education. As a way to better align with our organizational mission, we created this program to enhance equity within our own workforce. As time progresses, we are looking to broaden our scope and provide even more opportunities and services to our employees.

Hakim’s story

Hakim and his wife emigrated to the United States from Algeria and are now both employees with the Evergreen Goodwill team.

Hakim started off his career with the organization just two months after arriving in the Seattle area, working as a material handler and participating in our Job Training and Education programs. He quickly sought out an opportunity to become a certified forklift operator and was later encouraged to apply for the CDL Program.

“You learn a lot from this program, you don’t learn only [driving], but you learn the [rules of the road],” said Hakim. “They teach you how you do your job with safety.”

Hakim also described an added benefit of being able to enhance and improve his English skills through participating in this program, as well as continuing to broaden his career.

“You have an opportunity for your resume,” Hakim said.

Having to work multiple jobs before learning about the CDL Program opportunity, Hakim said he’s now able to focus on just one role, and the paycheck boost has provided him and his wife with enough income to comfortably make ends meet.
