The New Way to Donate at Goodwill

July 8, 2020

Posted in: Donate

Donating at Goodwill is a little different these days for everyone's safety. When you bring us your donations, you’ll notice that we’ve put some new social distancing and product safety measures in place.

Social Distancing

Self-Serve Drop Off

Our new self-serve drop off format allows you to donate while following social distancing guidelines and preventing contact between people. Please pull up and drop off your items, by type, into the labeled bins. Item categories are listed below so that you can presort your donations before your visit.

Item categories:
•    Clothing
•    Accessories
•    Shoes
•    Toys and sporting goods
•    Books and media like CDs, VHS, and records
•    Household goods
•    Electronics

We cannot accept furniture at this time due to capacity.

No-Touch Tax Receipts

After you’ve donated you can pull up to a sign and snap a picture of a QR code to download your receipt. You can also visit seattlegoodwill.org/receipt.

Product Safety

We started accepting donations again on May 3, 2020. Since then, we’ve been spraying all donated items with disinfectant as they come in. After we disinfect the items, we quarantine them for three days. Then we sort them, price them, and place them on the sales floor.

Items that were donated prior to our closure on March 19, 2020 have been stored in boxes or on shelves and racks for over two months during our closure and have been adequately quarantined well beyond the recommended guideline.

As an extra safety precaution, items that were stocked on shelves and hung on racks during our closure and adequately quarantined were also disinfected with mist foggers using an environmentally friendly, CDC and EPA approved anti-viral cleaning agent.

Please note that donation centers may experience brief closures during regular operating hours so that we can provide a safe donations experience. Due to the high turnout of donors, our donation center facilities and our local roads may reach capacity. We expect longer than usual wait times to donate will occur, so we ask for your patience and understanding during this time.

We ask that you keep an eye out for changes in flow, as this may be different than the last time you donated. Please follow all traffic laws.
