Our mission is hitting the road!

We would like to put the spotlight on the latest addition to our Mission delivery services – the Digital Equity Bus.

This mobile classroom – developed in partnership with a global leader in human infrastructure development, Black & Veatch – will bring our computer classes, workforce development programs, and wraparound support services directly to people in rural and historically under-resourced communities across Northwest Washington.

Evergreen Goodwill, in partnership with the community, is invested in bridging the “digital divide,” so our students have equitable access to the technology and skills they need for long-lasting and life-changing employment opportunities. As of 2021, according to the Washington State Department of Commerce, 45% of residents statewide either had no internet access in their homes or were coping with very slow download speeds. With the launch of the Digital Equity Bus, Evergreen Goodwill will be able to expand its reach well beyond the five brick-and-mortar Job Training and Education Centers.

“For nearly a century, Evergreen Goodwill’s mission has been to break down significant barriers to education and employment, and with the acceleration of technology in the workplace, we’ve been at the forefront with key community partners on digital equity work by providing free computer classes and access to technology,”

– Eileen Aparis, Vice President of Mission for Evergreen Goodwill

The Digital Equity Bus features SMART Board technology, WiFi access, adjustable desk seating for 9-12 people, an accessible ramp, and room for multiple instructors and Goodwill staff members. Alongside the exterior, an adjustable awning will allow for even more instruction space during warmer months.

The bus will first hit the road in Whatcom County, in partnership with local community organizations, before heading elsewhere in our multi-county region. To register for a class offered through our Digital Equity Bus in the Whatcom County region, please call 360-738-0483.

This effort wouldn’t be possible without the collaborative effort of employees across the Evergreen Goodwill organization and our many community partners.
