Intentional Style: In Conversation with Your Friend, Claudine

Claudine of Your Friend, Claudine is a pop artist who expresses their life in music, utilizing enthralling lyrics and melodies. Beyond music, their style is a key part of their creative identity: they mix vintage finds with edgy statement pieces to create looks that are both fearless and timeless. We sat down with Claudine to talk about their creative process, approach to style, and the role thrifting plays in shaping their aesthetic.
Growing Up with Goodwill
Evergreen Goodwill: Tell us about your history and experience with Goodwill.
Your Friend, Claudine: I started going to Goodwill in my early childhood. It played a pretty big role in the way I grew up—my father immigrated to the United States in the mid-1990s and we weren’t really able to afford new things on a regular basis until I was late into high school. I have so many vivid memories of us going into Goodwill for anything and everything: furniture, clothing, tools, and more. This paved the path for my life later on as an artist because it taught me to be very intentional and resourceful about the kind of world I build for myself in my art, home interiors, music, photography, and clothing.
A Timeless Wardrobe
Evergreen Goodwill: How would you describe your sense of style when it comes to fashion?
Your Friend, Claudine: I would describe my fashion style as a bit rugged, with edge, charm, comfort, quality and timelessness. Lately I’ve been leaning into picking up staple pieces for my closet that I enjoy coming back to instead of having a lot of items I’ll phase out quickly. The pieces I really gravitate towards are vintage leathers and denim, quality long sleeve button-ups, fun blouses made of interesting materials from the late ‘90s and ‘00s, and quality cotton t-shirts that just fit me really well.
Fashion Favorites

Evergreen Goodwill: what are some of your favorite brands?
Your Friend, Claudine: My favorite brands are Dr. Martens, Converse, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren, The North Face, Schott NYC, Sony, and GAP. Occasionally I will shop online—I really like eBay—but I am big on staying on my feet and love shopping in-person more than anything. I adore flea markets, garage sales, the Fremont Sunday Market, and shopping with my friends who also sell curated goods. I always make an effort to support local businesses above anything else.
A Sleek, Industrial Home Aesthetic
Evergreen Goodwill: How would you describe your style in home décor?
Your Friend, Claudine: My style leans towards a sleek, industrial feel. When it comes to interiors, my goal is to always create spaces where style meets practicality, quality, and comfort. I’m really drawn to pieces that feature silver and chrome. I also gravitate towards ‘60s, ‘70 s, and Y2K styles for home decor and interiors.
As previous pop-ups in our Rare Finds series, the collaboration with Claudine of Your Friend, Claudine is a powerful reminder of the impact of thrifting: Shopping at Goodwill is a gateway to sustainable artistic and style expression, while supporting the greater mission of offering free job training and education for the local community.
