As Evergreen Goodwill celebrates Black History Month, we are drawing inspiration from the theme “Art as a Platform for Social Justice,” identified by the National Museum of African American History & Culture for 2024. There is a rich tapestry of African American history and culture, particularly within our region.

Evergreen Goodwill is excited to announce the grand opening of its latest retail store, located in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Opening its doors at 9:00 am on February 2, 2024, Sedro-Woolley marks the organization’s 25th retail space and first new location in nearly a decade.

Over the last 100 years, Evergreen Goodwill has transformed from an up-and-coming thrifting operation to a pillar of the Northwest Washington community. This resilience is a testament to our incredible workforce, donors, and shoppers supporting our mission to transform lives through the power of education and quality employment.

Despite the ongoing Great Recession, Evergreen Goodwill became the fifth largest Goodwill region in North America by 2014.

The 1980s were an electrifying time, not only because of the vibrant fashion and music but also because of the revolutionary rise of the personal computer.

In the 1970s, Seattle’s growth brought diversity and the need for disability support. Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington assisted those facing economic and educational challenges. Like today, we offered free job training classes including cashiering, graphic arts, electronics, and banking, along with GED guidance, resume help, interviews, and English classes for non-native speakers.

In the early 1960s the Seattle Lane Street headquarters and flagship store underwent significant expansion that provided more work and retail space. See what else influenced changes in the 1960s.
